Dorchester School District Four will honor three outstanding employees at the May 19, 2026 Board of Trustees meeting as part of its ongoing Everyday Hero employee recognition program. The program honors district employees whose dedication, professionalism, and care for students and staff make a meaningful difference every day, often behind the scenes. Each honoree will receive a certificate of appreciation and a commemorative coin from the Superintendent.
Dr. Mixon-Davis was nominated by Mrs. Julia Drum, Secondary Coordinator for the DD4 Department of Exceptional Children. Mrs. Drum described Dr. Mixon-Davis as “a tremendous asset to the students and families of DD4,” noting that she creates innovative opportunities for students to meet their personal and career goals, listens carefully to each student’s needs, and works with community partners and agencies to remove barriers standing in their way.
Her work as a Transition Specialist goes beyond planning, it is about helping students see and reach a future that is truly their own. Through personalized advocacy carried out day after day, Dr. Mixon-Davis helps young people with exceptionalities navigate the path from school to adult life with confidence and support.
Mrs. Sharon Hill was nominated by Mrs. Makeisha Butler, Assistant Principal at Woodland High School. Mrs. Butler credited Mrs. Hill as the driving force behind “Woodland Threads,” an in-school clothing resource that helps students dress for success for Prom, the Military Ball, field trips, interviews, the Black History Program, and more. The program also helps students who find themselves out of dress code, keeping them in class and out of in-school suspension.
Mrs. Butler shared that students frequently ask, “Where is Ms. Hill?” and that one student said she never worried about picture day because she knew Ms. Hill would make sure she looked her best. Mrs. Hill accepts donations, contributes her own clothing, and has personally purchased items when school supplies fell short, all to ensure no student has to face an important moment feeling unprepared or unseen.
Mr. Matthew Perry was nominated by Mr. Kevin Earle, Director of Child Nutritional Services, who praised Mr. Perry’s exceptional performance during the extended absence of his cafeteria manager. Rather than waiting to be asked, Mr. Perry stepped forward, taking on additional responsibilities to keep cafeteria operations running smoothly for students and staff.
Mr. Earle noted that Mr. Perry demonstrated strong leadership, coordinating daily tasks, supporting fellow team members, and ensuring all procedures and standards were upheld. His positive attitude, reliability, and genuine commitment to the Student Nutrition Program throughout a challenging period made a lasting impression on his colleagues and supervisors alike.
The Everyday Hero program is a district-wide initiative recognizing employees who go above and beyond their job descriptions in service of students, families, and schools. Nominations are accepted on an ongoing basis from principals, department heads, and district administrators.
This month's honorees serve as a constant reminder that strong schools are built by people who show up every day with heart, purpose, and a willingness to serve beyond their job description. Dorchester School District Four is grateful for the difference each of them makes for its students, schools, and community.
