Student leaders at St. George Middle School were treated to a structured, standards-based field trip at the SC Aquarium on November 29th. This is the third year SGMS has been awarded this experience. Fifty students attended the program, which accommodates students in grades 6-8. Jaime Thom (Educational Coordinator for the SC Aquarium) and volunteer instructors led the students through a series of “behind-the-scenes” hands-on learning stations that focused on taxonomy, genetics, and sustainable seafood harvesting. The students also participated in a “selfie” scavenger hunt that highlighted various species at the aquarium.
